Master Effective Landing Page Design

To master the creation of an effective landing page, one must design a user interface that leads users where you want them to go. There are four main steps to success in designing a visual harmonic target. This includes: Do your research, design for your demo, use proper copy, and perform testing/modification.

Here are the main fundamentals used in mastering landing page design.

  • Focal point and call to action

Be clear about what you want them to do without being too loud. Don’t make them think, make them act.

  • Make it flow

Lead the eye. User should naturally feel pushed to focus on pertinent information. Don’t let those clicks die, take ‘em to their destiny. Make it simple, Stewart.

  • Do your research

    Google that $#!@

  • Be friendly

Reduce anxiety, build trust, ensure privacy, and be coherent. Things like testimonies, credibility, and Verisign logos help.

  • Match the creative/ad

Do what you say and say what you do. Give ‘em what they’re asking for.

  • Important elements “above the fold”

Usually 800x600px should cover it, and make sure it works in the dreaded IE 6.

  • Clear the clutter

Remove unnecessary elements and RESPECT the white space.

  • Get tested

Test in all browsers for all OS’s. Test everything and then test it again.

  • Build for scanning

Users don’t read, they scan. Limit the options. Use colors, type, images, layout, and white space to create maximum legibility.
